Diff shuddering while turning corners?


  1. Old oil. Change it and fill to the correct level. 
  2. Broken, worn or seized limited slip diff. Strip and replace worn parts.
  3. Incorrect oil. Drain oil and fill to the correct level.
  4. No LSD additive. Use correct additive. 


Having trouble shifting?


  1. Oil too thick. You’ll notice this especially during cold weather and in the first few kms of driving. Use thinner oil to correct this.
  2. Clutch not disengaging. Check clutch operation and adjust or replace as needed. 
  3. Syncros or sleeves worn out. Strip gearbox and replace parts as needed. 
  4. Bent or seized selector rods (Holden 4-speed typical). Replace broken/worn parts.

Loose gearshift?


  1. Bolts holding shifter have come loose.
  2. Shifter bush worn, broken or missing.
  3. Pins in shifter housing worn or missing.
  4. Thread on shifter nut or housing worn out.


Noisy gears?


  1. Diff bearings or gears need stripping and replacement. 
  2. Diff or transfer case low on oil. Refill to the correct level. 
  3. Transfer case needs stripping and replacement. 
  4. 4WD transfer case chain slipping. Replace transfer chain. 
  5. Front-wheel drive transaxle bearings or gears worn out. Strip and replace worn parts. 

All gears but the fourth are noisy? (Rear-wheel drive)


  1. Gearbox bearings or gears worn out. Strip and replace worn parts.
  2. Gearbox oil low. Fill with correct oil to level.
  3. Mainshift tip or tip bearing worn. Strip and replace worn parts.
  4. Constant mesh gears worn out or broken. 


No drive when gears are selected?


  1. Clutch slipping or centre stripped out. Replace clutch and machine flywheel. 
  2. Mainshaft or output drive spline worn out or stripped.
  3. Broken axle. 
  4. Worn diff splines.
  5. Woodruff keys in countershaft stripped (will drive in 4th only). 
  6. Input gears stripped. Replace broken gears.
  7. Drive flange spline stripped. Replace spline pieces.

Clutch pedal sticking to the floor?


  1. Clutch master cylinder faulty. Check fluid level is correct.
  2. Clutch slave cylinder faulty. Check fluid level is correct. 
  3. Gearbox nose cone broken off. Replace broken part/s.
  4. Clutch cable seized or broken. Replace parts as needed.
  5. Clutch fork or pivot ball broken. Replace parts as needed. 


Can’t select first gear?


  1. Clutch not disengaging. Check cylinders, cable and clutch itself. Replace as needed.
  2. Syncro or sleeve worn out. Strip gearbox and fit parts as needed. 
  3. Shifter or shifter bush worn out. Replace parts as needed.
